The fortress Kanli Kula in Herceg Novi was built by the Turks in the XVI century during the reign of the Ottoman Empire on the territory of Montenegro . The construction height of 85 meters at a glance creates a sense of fear, and not just. For a long time Kanli Kula was not only a fortification, but also a prison, where he was tortured and executed prisoners, and the opportunity to escape from it has been completely ruled out. Some walls of the former prison cells contain inscriptions applied prisoners, viewed now.
The fortress was opened to visit in the 60s of the XX century, and in 1966 the territory of Kanli Kula have built the largest amphitheater in Montenegro with a capacity of 1500 seats. It often hosts various events, festivals and concerts. Due to the fact that the inside of the castle is well preserved the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, the most popular works in the theater at the fortress are historical plays.
